Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) established by an Act of Parliament in 1985 has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education. It has tried to increase the reach of higher education by offering quality and relevant programs at flexible time schedules. The University provides opportunities to those who have been unable to pursue a regular mode of education.
The National Teacher Training Program (NTT) is one such program that is offered by the IGNOU through its distance learning mode. The objective of this program is to provide opportunities to in-service teachers working in primary/ upper primary schools affiliated with Central/State Boards of Education to improve their professional competence by undergoing a certificate course in teacher training.
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formerly known as National Open School (NOS) was established in November 1989 as an autonomous organization in pursuance of the National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India. NIOS is providing a number of Vocational Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels.
