The National Teacher Training (NTT) course is a one-year diploma course that has been designed by the IGNOU to train in-service teachers at the elementary level. The main objective of the course is to prepare teachers who can effectively impart Elementary level Education. The course curriculum has been designed in such a way that it will enable the teacher trainees to understand child development and learn various teaching methodologies. The course also covers important aspects like school management communication skills and educational technology.

The course is designed for in-service teachers who wish to upgrade their qualifications. It is also open to fresh graduates who wish to enter the teaching profession.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formerly known as National Open School (NOS) was established in November 1989 as an autonomous organization in pursuance of the National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India. NIOS is providing a number of Vocational Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. It also offers Elementary level Courses through its open basic education programs.
