The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formerly known as National Open School (NOS) was established in November 1989 as an autonomous organization in pursuance of the National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India. NIOS is providing a number of Vocational Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels.
The National Teacher Training (NTT) program at IGNOU is a two-year diploma course. It is designed to prepare in-service teachers for the elementary stage of education. The course covers various aspects of child development and pedagogy. It also includes training in school management and classroom teaching. After successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)
The National Teacher Training (NTT) Programme of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a one-year diploma program that has been designed for in-service untrained teachers working in primary/upper primary schools in different states of the country. The objectives of the program are to prepare such teachers to meet the challenges of teaching at the elementary level and to enable them to contribute effectively to the process of elementary education.
