The Department of History, University of Mumbai was established in 1969 in the Fort Campus. In June 1972 it shifted its demesne to the new University Lot at Kalina. The Department is located on the alternate bottom of the Ranade Bhavan, Trades Faculty Building, at Vidyanagari. It's accessible by both the Western and Central Railroads, and served by Railway stations at Santacruz and Kurla independently. Busnos. 37, 91, 313 and 318 bias between Santacruz and Vidyanagari and between Kurla and Vidyanagari. The Vidyanagari lot with its numerous trees and well laid out auditoriums offers an terrain conducive to literacy and exploration. Program
The Department of History has been established in 1969. The Department of History offers a two timepost-graduate course leading to a Master’s Degree by papers or by discussion. A number of scholars who have been awarded.M.Phil andPh.D. degrees have gone on to make their own distinctive donation in the field of History.
Along with the regular lectures forM.A. scholars, a great deal of significance is given to the donation of forum papers by scholars and their participation in the class room donation.
The Department also organises a yearly exploration pupil forum whereM.Phil andPh.D. scholars partake their exploration findings.
Members of the faculty specialize in Ancient, Medieval and Ultramodern Indian History. While emphasis is placed on tutoring and exploration in Indian History a great deal of significance is also given to studying developments in an transnational environment, and studying the histories of specific countries similar as Europe,USA., China and West Asia.
The Department regularly invites scholars both in History and other affiliated disciplines to give addresses and lectures to faculty and scholars and makes a special trouble to reach out to council preceptors of the numerous sodalities combined to the University of Mumbai. It purposely aims to make islands and share information between College and University preceptors with the intention to making the University of Mumbai a Centre of excellence in literal exploration and ameliorate the quality of tutoring at both situations. The Departments also regularly invites prestigious scholars of public and transnational standing to deliver prestigious talent lectures similar asD.D.Kosambi Memorial Lectures; Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Memorial Lectures; Pandit Bhagwanlal IndrajiLectures.The Guru Gobind Singh Endowment Chair was established in the Department of History in the time 2003.
Holders of theB.A. Degree of the University of Mumbai or any other recognised Indian University who have majored in History or have studied at- least two papers in History at the graduate position are eligible for admission to theM.A. Degree in History. Scholars who haven't offered at least two papers in History at the Graduate position but are seeking admission to theM.A.( History) programme will have to appear for an admission test. The test will be the same as given to graduates from the faculties of Trades, seeking admission to theM.A. History programme. The decision of granting admission will be made by the Head of the Department
Graduates from other Universities seeking admission to theM.A. History programme are needed to first gain an Eligibility Certificate from the Registrar, University of Mumbai. The Registrar may issue a provisional statement of eligibility if he's satisfied that the aspirant is prima facie eligible for admission. Having attained the provisional statement of eligibility, a pupil may seek provisional admission to this University, and on condition that he submits to the Registrar’s Office through the Head of the Department, the necessary instruments in original together with a compartmented/ Xerox dupe of each for evidence of his eligibility before the close of the academic term in which the pupil is provisionally admitted to the University.
