The Diploma in Community Medical Services & Essential Drugs (click here) is an 18 Months Diploma Course. The Diploma in Community Medical Services & Essential Drugs (DCMSED) is a two-year diploma course offered by the Department of Medicine. The course covers a wide range of topics such as medical ethics community health epidemiology primary health care and pharmacology. The Course is designed to provide comprehensive training to medical officers in the field of community medicine with special emphasis on essential drugs. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to find employment as medical officers or assistant medical officers in various settings such as primary health care centers community health care centers, and government hospitals.

The course is conducted in two phases:

Phase I: Theory - This comprises lectures seminars tutorials and case presentations.

Phase II: Clinical - This comprises posting in various departments like OPD IPD Casualty Emergency Family Planning etc. as per the rotation schedule. There is also a rural posting for six weeks during this phase.

The course intends to provide basic input to the students about the basics of human anatomy & physiology with pathology, community health & hygiene with the science of drugs and its administration.

Course Description

Students are provided with knowledge & skills on mental health, health education & communication, clinical emergencies, pediatrics, medicine & surgery, clinical emergencies, health planning &management, basic research methods, Community medicine & medical ethics.

The student will acquire skills in Basic patient care.

Wound Dressing.

Immunization.

Identify health problems.

Administration of basic medication.

Giving health education to the rural communities.

Quality control in rural health care.

Application of ethical legal practices in their profession.

3rd (Internship 6 Months)

Course Description

Hands-on the application in different hospitals and first aid treatment centers with Video lectures on Drug pictures of 142 Essential Drugs.
